Phang Nga is a spectacular coastal province with an amazing array of natural wonders. Lapped by the Andaman Sea on Thailand’s west coast, just north of Phuket, Phang Nga is often overlooked in favour of its more famous southern neighbour. But visitors who stay and explore will discover a diverse destination featuring beautiful beaches and captivating coastlines, including one of the world’s most dramatic seascapes – Phang Nga Bay.
On Phang Nga’s Andaman coast, just a short drive north from Phuket International Airport, Natai Beach is long, sandy and as beautiful as anything southern Thailand has to offer. Slightly further north, Khao Lak is developing into a popular resort area with several international resorts, including a JW Marriott.
Offshore, the Surin and Similan Islands are two alluring archipelagos in the Andaman Sea featuring crystal clear waters, dramatic rock formations and colourful coral reefs. One of the Similan Islands, Koh Hong, even features a secret lagoon that is only accessible at high tide.
Phang Nga’s most exquisite treasure however, can be found off the province’s south coast. Phang Nga Bay is one of the world’s most iconic seascapes, with hundreds of towering limestone karsts that rise from the turquoise sea. Covering an incredible 400 square kilometres, this is a marine maze of cliffs, caves and coves which is sure to enchant every visitor. Phang Nga Bay is so sublime that it was used in the filming of the 1974 movie “The Man with the Golden Gun”, which led to one of the karsts being nicknamed “James Bond Island”. More recently, it featured in the Star Wars movie “Revenge of the Sith”.
For guests who want to experience the natural beauty of southern Thailand, away from the tourist crowds, Phang Nga is a truly dazzling destination.
